Women in the Window International is delighted to introduce our featured volunteer, Sondra McCarty. Sondra is one of our champion event planners, and just co-chaired our inaugural Spring Luncheon and last fall’s Evening in the Courtyard. Her upbeat attitude, gracious manner of leadership, and meticulous attention to detail make her a true blessing to our event team! And her sweetness spills over to everyone in the ministry since she creates personalized birthday cards for each and every volunteer. And speaking of birthdays…we want to wish her a happy birthday today, March 20th!
We hope you will enjoy learning more about Sondra in the brief interview below. If God is leading you to serve with WiW, please learn more about our volunteer opportunities and contact us!
Sondra, what compelled you to serve with Women in the Window?
My calling from the Lord, first and foremost. Equal to that is the fact that serving alongside Kim Kerr is a real blessing to me. She has such a vision and positive outlook, and I love it when that is shared with me and prayerfully I can be the same way. My tendency is to be focused not on people but on the numbers when I have a project going. I need to be able to see more of the big picture and Kim’s leadership helps me with that.
What has been the most enjoyable aspect of your volunteer experience so far?
Working with the other volunteers and being together with them. It is such a joy to serve and plan events such as Evening in the Courtyard and the Spring Luncheon. Co-chairing with Brittany Henson (pictured with me) was a blessing, a lot of fun, and rewarding when we saw the results. It is so refreshing to work with volunteers who make their tasks serious business and accomplish their part of the task. Also, I love working alongside my friend Jessica Derosier!
What’s one of the most interesting things you’ve learned about WiW’s ministry?
There are so many, but I continue to learn how the prayers and finances that come from here are so helpful and needed to continue the ministry in the 10/40 Window. Since I am unable to travel, I love hearing the stories of how the women and children are being impacted by the prayers of the local and worldwide Women in the Window.
What is a passage of Scripture that has special significance for you?
Oh wow…now you’ve asked a question that I’m almost unable to answer because there are so very many! Other than Psalm 139:13-17, my life verses, I would have to go with Psalm 27:1-2, James 1:2-4, and Colossians 3:13-15. All of these have had significant influence in my life over the years.
