Dignity: The word for 2018
Dignity. The state or quality of being worthy of honor and respect. Dignity is the 2018 word of the year for Women in the Window International. While we may have a difficult time describing dignity, we know it when we see it. Proverbs 31:25 puts it in context, as a word fitly spoken and elegantly displayed,
“Strength and dignity are her clothing and she smiles (without fear!) at the future.”
Yes, our hearts’ desire is to see women clothed with dignity and strength and we need your help to do so! Without your time, treasure, and most of all your talents, we simply cannot make this happen.
Volunteers are needed in our WiW office, on our events team, and on international and national training teams! Perhaps you don’t think you have “what it takes,” but I want to remind you that God says we all have something of great value to offer. You do have what it takes and your contribution is both absolutely necessary and has eternal value!
“Now all of you together are Christ’s body, and each one of you is a separate and necessary part of it.” 1 Corinthians 12:27
Even if you don’t consider yourself a speaker or teacher, God says that YOU are essential. Yes, He makes it clear that all the parts of His body are needed: “In fact, some of the parts that seem weakest and least important are really the most necessary. . . God has put the body together in such a way that extra honor and care are given to those parts that have less dignity.” 1 Corinthians 12:22-24

P.S. Just in case you need a little more motivation, here are just a few of the reasons why dignity and purpose in Christ matter to women in the 10/40 Window and beyond, as prominent cultural and religious teachings and practices often include these horrific facts and much more too:
- Women/girls are considered a source of shame
- Some religions teach that the majority of the inhabitants of hell are women
- Men/boys receive a double portion of both daily food and the family inheritance
- Dowry deaths and life-threatening injuries still number in the thousands in India alone
- Women/girls receive less education and healthcare simply because they are female
