How Resilient are you?

Many thanks to you, WiW is rooted and ready for 2026; eager to experience a year overflowing with fruitfulness in partnership with amazing women leaders throughout Africa, Asia and the Middle East. God wants us to be fruitful. He is actively involved in our lives helping us grow and flourish! He lovingly tends to all our needs, even the need for pruning. He waters and nourishes us, using His Word, His Holy Spirit, and His people.

So much of the Bible includes examples from nature. This month, we have compared the spiritual growth of our lives and service to the practical lessons we learn from trees. And today, let’s turn our attention to one of my all-time favorites, the cedar trees of Lebanon:

  •  The Cedar of Lebanon is a tough and resilient tree. It can withstand both extremes of weather as well as resist pests and diseases. Cedars stand strong and live long.
  • Cedar trees are adaptable. In a forest setting, the Cedar of Lebanon typically grows pointy and straight branches. In more open environments, its branches spread out.
  • It is patient and does not “blossom” until the age of thirty. At around 30 years of age, the cedar tree starts to grow 2-inch-long seedlings for the next generation of Cedars.
  • Cedar pitch has been used to ease toothaches and its sawdust to ward off snakes. A cedar can be both a protector and a healer.
  • Cedar trees are significant and notable. In fact, the word cedar is mentioned 103 times in the Bible. My favorite reference is found in Psalm 92:12-14,

“The righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon; planted in the house of the Lord, they will flourish in the courts of our God. They will still bear fruit in old age; they will stay fresh and green.”

How resilient are you? When you think about your day-to-day life, do you need resilience, adaptability, patience? Are you eager to provide protection and healing for others? I believe you are and that you do, or you would not have read this far in our WiW Wednesday e-newsletter :).

Well, I have great news for you. . .

When our focus is on serving Christ and growing in His Word, we find true significance. Yes, in Christ, we are not only notable – with our names written in His book of Life—but we are planted, purposeful, and positioned to serve others well with resilient and fruitful lives!
