But, did you know that even blueberries need other blueberries to help them grow?! While blueberries can technically “grow” as individual shrubs, most resources emphasize that they need to be planted in proximity to other blueberries to set fruit effectively.
According to the University of Florida, “fruit set generally increases with cross-pollination between two different plants.” Their research shows that cross-pollinated berries can be up to 42% larger and ripen significantly earlier (up to 27 days) than self-pollinated berries.”
