From Vicious to Victorious

Vicious, uncompromising strife and conflict characterize the nation of Sudan.

Sudan is once again the site of a devastating civil war between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). This most recent conflict has triggered the world’s largest displacement and hunger crisis, leaving over half the population (roughly 25 million people) in need of food and facing active famine conditions.

Since gaining independence from Britain in 1956, Sudan’s ruling class has justified its power with an ideology that favors the Arabic-speaking and Arabic elite in the capital Khartoum over populations from the nation’s more culturally, religiously, and linguistically diverse regions outside the capital. The result? Nearly 70 years of intense civil war.

Yet somewhere and somehow, in the midst of such turmoil and conflict, God is using ministries such as Kumalo Women of Hope, a Women in the Window International ministry partner, to bring hope and healing to those caught in the crosshairs of ongoing brutality.

Listen to the voice of their tears, and rejoicing as women participate in our WiW trainings on the refugee camp of northern Uganda, leaving the war behind, and embracing hope for their future, and the future of those they love:

  1. Evelyn is a refugee woman from Sudan. She said, “Thank God for this training program. I got true healing from God during the peacemaking training. There was total confusion in my mind, and our leader came to me and said, ‘Go to the women’s training on the refugee camp.’ At that time, I had just arrived from Sudan, and I was in need of prayer and had no peace of mind. After the training, I received healing and peace of mind because, during the training, we were told to carry all our burdens to Jesus in prayer.

By that time, I started praying for my son, who was in Egypt at school, while we had fled to Uganda to a refugee camp, having nothing to help him with. Through prayer, he is now preparing to come to Uganda to join us, and I believe that is God’s hand. So, through this training about health, God has opened doors for WIW and Women of Hope to do wonderful work of hope and healing.”

More than thirty women refugees attended, and each gave testimony of a changed life, including these practical stories about the impact in their lives and ministries:

    2. Elizabeth said, “I am giving thanks to God for WIW under the leadership of Kim and Kumalo, and Women of Hope under the leadership of Mama Paula and all the teams with them. I am testifying about the leadership training. I was a leader in the church for ten years without leadership skills, but through your training, now I know what to do. I was able to organize training in my church and talk about the importance of timing and teamwork because I have seen how Mama Paula comes with a training team that makes things work well. Even when Kim came, she was not alone. Praise God.”

    1. Christine Abalo said, “All my appreciation goes to God, and to WIW and Women of Hope for their effort and commitment to God’s work. God bless you all. I have become a trainer before even getting the certificate. I was able to train other women on time management, exactly like Mama Paula teaches us, because time management was a problem in our church.

But now there is a big change. The women come on time for Bible study, even on Sunday. And WIW inductive Bible study provides a better way for our women to study the Bible than before.”

Thank you, for your prayers and support helping these refugee women move from the vicious cycle of war in Sudan, to a victorious life of loving service to our Lord Jesus Christ.
