Healing Hearts through the Ancient Practice of Storytelling

Morocco – The Arab world is famous for their storytelling genius. From 1,001 stories of Arabian Nights to Sinbad the Sailor, stories call to the innermost parts of our hearts with pathos, with longing, and with joy. Yet, the most important story of all, the story of God’s Glory revealed through His Son, calls out from deep to deep (Psalm 42:7) and welcomes every person to understand the deep inner story of their own life.

“Did you know God is writing his story through your life? Your story is deeper, more profound than you know right now, and God desires that you discover it and share it with others.” Leslie Leyland Fields, Author of Your Story Matters

Women in the Window invited Leslie to our Middle East and North African training conference earlier this year and the result of this gathering of women leaders was magnificent. Each one of us, including our WiW volunteer leadership team, left with hearts filled with joy as we discovered the simple, yet profound way to write our stories, tell our stories, and then live our stories with greater confidence the love of Christ. Yes! Our stories matter and writing them has a profound impact on our souls as it also provides a beautiful way to love and serve others.

And, as always, our goal for any Women in the Window International training is that the women are equipped and empowered to pass along what they learn with rippling, multiplying impact. One of the women leaders who attended our training this Spring had the honor of traveling to Morocco, North Africa, to train 25 more women with the Your Story Matters method that she had just received. Once again, the results were magnificent, as women’s hearts were opened to receive and share God’s love.

Here are just a few of the comments she received from those she trained,

“I noticed something significant that I had never even thought about before.”

“I saw that God was present and enabled me to endure the pain; He never left my side as He supported me through and out of my troubles.”

“ My story became beautiful as I saw it this way, and I was able to see it even more clearly than I had before.”

“Now that I have learned this, I will apply this storytelling method to all the situations in my life to see what I can learn from them.”

Each woman recognized that God is with them in a beautiful way and that He has been present in their story from the very beginning. They are eager to share the news of His tender mercies! Thank you for your faithful prayers for this mission. You are the reason we can continue to love, tell, and live His Story!
